As part of a recapitalization of Secunda, Norway’s Siem Offshore has acquired Birch Hill’s 50 percent ownership interest in Secunda Canada.
With this transaction, Siem Offshore becomes the 100 percent owner of Secunda Canada. The acquisition will not have a significant cash flow effect for Siem Offshore, according to a company statement.
In addition, Siem Offshore reported Wednesday that the AHTS vessel Avalon Sea was successfully delivered from Remontowa Shipyard to Secunda Canada LP May 12. The vessel is specially designed and equipped for Canadian waters and will go on a six year contract with an international oil company before June 1.
BP Plc's (NYSE:BP) head of exploration Richard Herbert is leaving the British oil major after slightly more than two years in the job, a period in which the company slashed spending on the search for new deposits.
Herbert, a BP veteran and a long-time ally of CEO Bob Dudley, rejoined BP in October 2013 after several years at rival Talisman Energy. His task was to lead exploration activity to help the firm rebuild investor confidence following a deadly U.S. Gulf oil spill in 2010.
But as oil prices began to crash from mid-2014 and BP had to shed assets to pay off some $50 billion in U.S. liabilities for the Macondo spill, the firm had to reduce funding for costly exploration projects.
BP said the departure followed a decision to simplify BP's upstream executive team, headed by Bernard Looney, and bring exploration, global projects, reservoir developments and technology under one roof, reporting to James Dupree.
Howard Leach, currently head of technical functions in exploration, has been appointed interim head of exploration.

OSLO, May 18 (Reuters) - Norway awarded 10 new licenses in its 23rd oil licensing round for new exploration areas, which for the first time is granting access to an offshore border zone with Russia, the oil and energy ministry said on Wednesday.
13 companies will be offered participating interests in a total of 40 blocks, while five companies will be offered operatorships, the oil ministry said.
All ten production licences are located in the Barents Sea, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said in a separate statement.
Among the companies winning licenses were Statoil, Lundin Petroleum, Det norske, Lukoil, Chevron, Centrica and DEA, owned by Russian billionaire Mikhail Fridman's investment fund LetterOne.

GC Rieber Shipping ASA, through its wholly owned subsidiary Dolphin Geophysical Ltd, will carry out seismic acquisition and processing services for Black Sea Oil & Gas S.R.L offshore the Romanian coast of the Black Sea.
The deal, which will utilize the 16-streamer vessel Polar Marquis, is scheduled to commence “shortly”, according to a GC Rieber statement. Operations are expected to take approximately 45 days to complete.

NorSea Group (NSG), a Norwegian service provider to the oil and gas industry, has signed a renewed framework agreement concerning the delivery of base and port services with oilfield services provider, Technip.
NorSea said on Wednesday that the framework agreement, originally entered into in 2009, has now been extended until the end of 2018, with an extension option of 2 x 1 years. The services covered by the agreement include various base and logistics services and support in connection with maritime operations, waste management and technical work. The agreement with Technip was signed through its Norwegian subsidiary Technip Norge.
“Renewed faith from Technip Norge means a lot to NSG and we are proud to have been chosen again,” says Kenneth Bjørholm, Director of Market and Business Development at NSG.
According to NSG, the agreement has an extensive scope and involves nine NSG companies along the Norwegian coast and in the United Kingdom. The work will be undertaken by NorSea, Stordbase, Coast Center Base, Vestbase, Helgelandsbase, Polarbase, Maritime Waste Management, Maritime Logistic Services and NorSea Group UK.

PARIS, May 17 (Reuters) -- A nationwide strike against a French government labor law reform has cut output at Total's refineries in France, a CGT Union official said on Tuesday.
CGT delegate Thierry Defrense told Reuters that some 63% of members were participating in the strike, cutting production at Total facilities including its 198,000-bpd Normandy refinery.
"The machines are running but very little is coming out, and nothing is leaving the refinery," Defrense told Reuters.
At Total's 219,000-bpd Donges refinery in western France, another CGT union representative Christophe Hiou said "not a drop" of fuel was entering or leaving the plant. Workers are considering further action in coming days, he said.

Saudi Arabian national oil company Saudi Aramco has reportedly awarded a contract to Singapore-based Emas AMC and India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for the expansion of the Hasbah gas field located in the Arabian Gulf.
Reuters reported on Monday, quoting industry sources, that the work would include building platforms and pipelines with the field’s supply feeding the Fadhili gas plant.
The news agency also said that the expansion of Hasbah will supply 2 billion standard cubic feet per day (scfd) of gas to the Fadhili plant.
Saudi Aramco completed the installation of the Hasbah tie-in platform in February 2015 using its 7,500-ton crane, carrying weight that reached about 5,000 tons – which was, according to the company, its new record for heavy lift operation. The company announced the start of natural gas production from the Hasbah gas field in March 2016.
This is the second major contract award from Saudi Aramco for the pair following the six-year long agreement awarded in July 2015.

Mexico’s state-owned oil and gas company Pemex is to terminate its charter of a jack-up drilling rig owned by Aban Group’s subsidiary Deep Drilling Invest three months earlier than expected.
The contract for Deep Driller 1 will now terminate on June 1 this year, the Oslo-listed rig owner said today. The early cancellation could cost the owner around $13.4m excluding compensation.
The 2006-built rig has been earning around $149,000 per day since commencing the contract for Pemex in the third quarter 2013. The term was originally scheduled to terminate this September.
Deep Driller 1 is the only of one of Deep Drilling Invest’s eight rigs with contracted revenue backlog in 2016.

Singapore-based IEV Holdings Ltd. disclosed Monday that its 49 percent associate, IEV Malaysia, commenced mobilization Sunday for the offshore transportation and installation of the Sabah Shell Petroleum Company Limited integrated Malikai Tension Leg Platform (TLP) offshore Sabah, Malaysia.
The Sapura 3000 and Aegir construction vessels as well as a number of transportation barges and tugs will provide offshore transportation and installation of the anchoring piles and the TLP, with work expected to be completed before the end of July, the company said in a press release.

HOUSTON -- EnerVest has announced new acquisitions in the Eagle Ford shale. Since September 2015, the company has acquired $1.3 billion of assets from three entities in a concentrated part of Karnes County, Texas. Combined, the acquired properties produce more than 17,000 boed.
Most recently, the company signed an agreement to acquire assets, 75% of which are operated, from BlackBrush Oil and Gas, L.P., a portfolio company of funds managed by Ares Management, L.P. The sellers will retain a minority ownership stake in the remaining assets of BlackBrush and the acquisition is expected to close in June.
Second, EnerVest acquired assets from affiliates of GulfTex. The properties are 60% operated and the acquisition closed April 29. These assets are adjacent to the BlackBrush acquisition.
“This is a great time in the commodity price cycle to buy oil assets, especially in the core of one of the hottest plays in the U.S.,” said John B. Circle Oil has announced that the 2016 infill drilling campaign on the North West Gemsa field has been completed. The second of the two production wells, AASE-24 has been drilled to TD, completed and tied in to the production infrastructure. On 16 May a well test commenced and the well flowed at a gross average rate of 1,714bbls/day of oil and 3.062mmcf/d of gas through a 40/64" choke.
The well will be produced at a lower rate in order to best manage the long term field production.

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE:JEC) announced today it received a two year contract from Saudi Aramco Total Refining and Petrochemical Company (SATORP) to provide general engineering services (GES) at SATORP’s Jubail Industrial City II facilities in Saudi Arabia.
Under the terms of the contract Jacobs is providing a range of feasibility studies, concept design and detailed engineering design services for a portfolio of minor capital expenditure projects.
In making the announcement Jacobs Senior Vice President Oil and Gas Bassim D. Shebaro stated, “We are pleased to receive this contract, which expands our presence in the Jubail Industrial City and reinforces our commitment to providing world-class services to our clients across the region. SATORP’s 400,000 barrels per day Jubail Refinery is one of the most advanced refineries in the world, producing a wide variety of white products from heavy crude oil.

Gazprom and PetroVietnam have signed a deal to jointly develop new oil and gas projects and cooperate on gas-based power generation.
According to a Memorandum of Understanding on the development of new oil and gas projects, the parties plan to examine opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation “in the field of hydrocarbon prospecting, exploration and development”, according to a Gazprom statement. Among the opportunities being considered are joint activities within new projects at licensed blocks on the shelf of Vietnam and in other countries.
