ST. PETERSBURG, Russia -- Total oil production at Novoportovskoye oil and gas-condensate field, which is under development by Gazprom Neft subsidiary Gazpromneft-Yamal, has now reached one million tonnes.
Novoportovskoye field was discovered in 1964 through prospecting well P-50, drilled by a team from the Yamal division of the Yamalneftegeologia group of companies. The field’s distance from transport infrastructure meant development did not commence until 2012, when pilot development by Gazprom Neft saw deliveries commence by road transport.
Novoportovskoye field has the potential to significantly increase production volumes. To that end, it was essential that a decision be taken on the best means of transporting increasing volumes of crude, and transportation by sea, via Cape Kamenny, was chosen as the optimum route.
The first possibility of dispatching oil by sea during the winter season was confirmed by Gazprom Neft as early as 2011, following a pilot voyage by a nuclear icebreaker from the port of Sabetta to Cape Kamenny. A new crude, Novy Port, was first shipped (on a temporary basis) via the Northern Sea route in summer 2014, for supply to European customers, with the first winter sea shipment taking place on the same basis as early as February 2015.
The Arctic Gates oil loading terminal was commissioned by Gazprom Neft on May 25, 2016, allowing year-round shipments of oil from Novoportovskoye field to commence.

Iran's Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), operator of Phase 19 of the South Pars Gas Project, reported Tuesday that the SPD19A platform has been loaded for delivery at the Khorramshahr Yard ahead of installation at the field.
The 2,700-ton SPD19A, the second of four platforms for Phase 19, was loaded June 18. The firm would tap on experience gained in installing platforms for Phases 12, 17, 18 and SPD 19C to reduce the installation time for SPD19A. POGC expects Phase 19 to produce 1.5 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of natural gas by the end of this year after platforms SPD2, SPD19C and SPD19A become operational.
South Pars Phase 19 is expected to produce 1.77 million cubic feet per day (Mmcf/d) or 50,000 cubic meter per day of sweet gas, 75,000 barrels a day of gas condensate, 400 tons a day of sulfur, 1.05 million tons a year of LPG and 1 million tons a year of ethane. Masoudi added that design, engineering, construction, and operation of the South Pars gas field have been carried out by Iranian contractors.

LONDON (Bloomberg) -- BP will send the first tanker of LNG through the expanded Panama Canal in late July, opening up a new trade route for the heating and power-plant fuel as supplies surge.
The British Merchant will begin its journey in Trinidad & Tobago before heading to the canal for passage to the Pacific Ocean, according to an emailed statement from the Panama Canal Authority on Tuesday. The tanker, which has a capacity of 138,517 cubic meters of gas, is already anchored in the Caribbean, shipping data compiled by Bloomberg show.
The $5.3-billion expansion will allow the waterway to handle the kind of massive tankers that transport LNG for the first time. The shorter trade route between the Atlantic and Pacific will help cut costs after global LNG prices plunged in the past two years because of lower oil prices, rising supply and softening demand. The U.S. became an exporter of LNG produced from shale gas in February with the start of Cheniere Energy Inc.’s Sabine Pass terminal in Louisiana.
“It’s what a lot of folks have been anticipating for a long time,” said Rusty Braziel, president of RBN Energy LLC in Houston. Given current oil prices and economic conditions, shipments through the canal may be limited to volumes contracted to go to Japan and other Asia-Pacific buyers. The longer-term prospects are more promising, he said.
Earlier this month, the Panama Canal Authority estimated that 20 million tons of LNG may pass through annually, which would be equivalent to about 300 ships a year.
BP wasn’t immediately available for comment by phone or email.

Woodside and Mitsui E&P Australia have received approval for the development of the Greater Enfield Project.
Located 60 km off Exmouth in Western Australia within commonwealth waters, the project will develop the Laverda Canyon, Norton over Laverda (WA-59-L), and Cimatti (WA-28-L) oil accumulations. These reserves will be produced via a 31 km subsea tieback to the Ngujima-YinFPSO facility, stationed over the Vincent oil field.
Woodside CEO Peter Coleman said that monetizing Greater Enfield was made possible by breakthroughs in the development concept, technology, and contracting.
“We have achieved investment spend at the low end of our guidance range by leveraging the latest technologies and using existing FPSO infrastructure. This allows us to accelerate the development of previously stranded resources. Greater Enfield is a demonstration of our phased and sustainable approach to growth,” Coleman said.
The Greater Enfield Project requires development of six subsea production wells and six water injection wells. Subsea multiphase booster pumps in the Laverda area will support production and gas lift in the Cimatti area.
The project is targeting development of gross 2P reserves of 69 MMboe from the Laverda Canyon, Norton over Laverda, and Cimatti oil accumulations. Woodside reserves will increase by 41 MMboe in conjunction with the approval of the project for development.
The total investment for the project is approximately $1.9 billion total cost with first oil expected in mid-2019.
The Greater Enfield Project is a joint venture between operator Woodside Energy Ltd (60%) and Mitsui E&P Australia Pty Ltd (40%).

BHP Billiton has outlined its value-focused approach to exploration.
Speaking at Citigroup’s Mining Exploration Day in Sydney, BHP Billiton Head of Geoscience, Laura Tyler, said the company is focusing its exploration approach through targeted analysis and the establishment of a Geoscience Centre of Excellence.
Tyler said exploration is seen as a key source of value creation for BHP Billiton.
“We are investing at a time when most in our sector continue to reduce discretionary spend,” she said. “Next financial year, we intend to invest approximately $900 million dollars in exploration, which represents 18% of our overall capital budget.
“We are also challenging existing paradigms with a scientific based and disciplined approach to exploration. We have reduced exploration operating costs by 70% since 2013, and this year we have increased the targets tested by 44%.”
BHP Billiton’s Petroleum exploration program is focused on three conventional deepwater basins in: the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean (in Trinidad & Tobago and Barbados), and the Northern Beagle sub-basin off the coast of Western Australia.
“Over the last four years we have developed a new approach to petroleum exploration that is much more focused,” Tyler said.
“We have commenced drilling in Trinidad and Tobago and have secured an additional rig which will soon commence drilling in a prospective block north of our Shenzi operations in the Gulf of Mexico.”
BHP Billiton’s Copper exploration program is targeting tier 1 greenfield mineral deposits, with a particular focus on: copper porphyry and skarn deposits in Chile, Peru and the south west of the United States sedimentary hosted copper deposits in the north of Canada, Iron Oxide Copper Gold deposits in South Australia’s Stuart Shelf, adjacent to Olympic Dam.
“We execute our Copper exploration both directly and through investment in joint venture opportunities and we continue to seek partnerships with junior explorers,” Tyler said.
The company’s regionally based exploration teams are supported by a globally integrated geoscience team to facilitate a faster adoption of best practice and new technology.
“Internal collaboration is very important and we are leveraging our Petroleum business geoscience to identify prospective sediment hosted copper deposit basins,” Tyler said. Similarly, we are adopting technology from Petroleum and applying directional drilling techniques to copper exploration.”
