The Anglo-Dutch supermajor confirmed in a release the Noble-owned drillship has been contracted for the campaign that is targeting additional gas in blocks 1 and 4 in the Mafia Deep basin where Shell has taken over operatorship following its recent acquisition of former operator BG Group. Shell, together with co-venturers Ophir Energy and Pavilion Energy, will drill one well in each of the blocks targeting about 2.5 trillion cubic feet of prospective resources to boost the existing 16 Tcf resource base to support the planned Tanzania LNG project. The wells will be drilled in a water depth of around 2300 metres.The partners are investing a total of $80 million in the drilling effort, though Shell is reported to be looking to drill up to five wells of Tanzania.

Canadian Natural Resources (CNR) is eyeing a production boost as it puts into motion its thermal oil sands portfolio after widening its losses in the third quarter as output dropped. The Canadian player said on Thursday that it has determined to re-initiate the development of its second thermal in situ oil sands steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) project, Kirby North, with engineering and procurement to commence in 2017. Capital spending for the project in 2017 is targeted to be $28 million. CNR also completed during the quarter the second phase of the Horizon Oil Sands project, which will help increase production rates. Moving forward, the company forecasts annual 2016 production levels to average between 514,000 bpd and 563,000 bpd of crude oil, with fourth quarter production guidance forecast to average between 575,000 bpd and 599,000 bpd.

Keppel Corporation has agreed to invest up to S$140 million (US$101.2 million) in Singapore oil and gas company KrisEnergy to boost its shareholding and enable its marine division to benefit from KrisEnergy's projects. KrisEnergy unveiled a widespread financial restructuring plan on Thursday that will better position it to meet its financial obligations as well as invest in field development projects. One part of the plan is extending the maturity of its existing revolving credit facility; another is seeking support from noteholders, and the third element is for shareholders to inject up to S$140 million of new funds via a proposed offering. Keppel is KrisEnergy's largest shareholder with a 39.99% interest.

French company Total has spudded an appraisal well at the Antelope gas field in Papua New Guinea as the company looks to shore up reserves on the western flank of the field.Joint venture partner Oil Search revealed in its monthly drilling report that the Antelope-7 well had spudded in PRL 15 on Wednesday.The well is being drilled to test for reservoir presence and definition on the western flank of the Antelope field.Antelope-7 will be drilled through the Orubadi shale formation to test for presence of the primary Antelope reservoir at a planned total depth of roughly 2300 metres which is expected to take 60 days to reach.Total is developing the Elk-Antelope fields in Papua New Guinea which, according to Oil Search, are estimated to hold a combined 6.4 trillion cubic feet of gas.The two fields will provide feedstock for either the greenfield Papua LNG project, or the expansion of the ExxonMobil-led PNG LNG project.

The Petroleum Services Association of Canada is forecasting a rise in drilling activity this winter season but still expects the total wells drilled in 2017 to be more than 60% less than 2014. In its annual drilling forecast PSAC is predicting 4175 wells to be drilled in Canada throughout 2017 and expects to end 2016 with a total of 3950 wells drilled.
Unlike the 2016 winter drilling season which was very short as a result of warm weather conditions, the upcoming 2017 season should reset activity for a lot of contractors and producers with forecasts of a much colder winter. "Beyond that, it is hard to find support for any significant ramp up of activity over what we are forecasting as geopolitics and increased supply continue to keep commodity prices low and a lack of access to global markets keeps a chokehold on the Canadian industry," said PSAC president Mark Salkeld. Although weather plays a major role in drilling activity in Western Canada, Salkeld said one of the industry's biggest impediments continues to be market access.

Pacific Radiance, a provider of integrated offshore marine support services, has won a long-term charter in Mexico worth $73 million. Delivered in 2016, the maintenance work boat (MWB) is the group’s third vessel to operate in Mexico, adding to its two anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels which have been operating in the region since 2014.
Under the multi-year contract inked with a new, unnamed client, the MWB will be deployed to perform platform maintenance, diving and subsea maintenance, as well as offshore construction work. The contract was won by the group’s indirect wholly-owned subsidiary, Radiance Alliance. Pang Yoke Min, the Executive Chairman of Pacific Radiance, said: “Mexico remains a promising target market where the government authorities have recently called for tenders for both shallow and deepwater development projects.”

Gaz du Cameroun S.A. announced Wednesday the spudding of development wells La-107 and La-108 in the Logbaba Gas Field located in Douala, Cameroon. Both wells will be drilled directionally from a drilling pad adjacent to the Logbaba processing plant, and will be tied into this facility once completed. The wells are intended to be production wells completed in the Upper Cretaceous (Campanian and Santonian) Logbaba Formation, which is a thick sequence of interbedded sands and shales found at depths between 5,577 feet and 10,498 feet below the surface.
The budget total for the two well program is approximately $40 million, which is expected to be funded by revenue and partner contributions. Drilling is scheduled to complete in the second quarter of 2017.

North Atlantic Drilling Ltd (NADL) has secured a renewed contract with Total for its semi-submersible West Phoenix for work off the UK. The French supermajor is taking the unit on a 90-day charter that gives NADL an estimated backlog of $17 million, yielding an approximate dayrate of $189,000.
The 2008-built semisub, which has been working for Total since 2009, will be used for drilling work in the West of Shetland region where the operator launched production from its Laggan-Tormore gas condensate field earlier this year.

Occidental Petroleum has acquired producing and non-producing leasehold acreage in the Permian basin from private sellers, the company said Monday. In a separate transaction, the company has also acquired interests in several Permian basin EOR properties.
According to the company, the leasehold acquisition includes approximately 35,000 net acres in Reeves and Pecos counties, Texas, in the Southern Delaware basin. The acreage yields about 7,000 boed of net production (72% oil) from 68 horizontal wells. Meanwhile, Occidental also acquired working interests in producing oil and gas CO2 floods and related EOR infrastructure, increasing the company’s ownership in several properties where it is the operator or an existing working interest partner. The total purchase price for these transactions is approximately $2 billion, which has been funded from existing cash on hand.

Dominion Energy said October 31 its Cove Point LNG plant in Maryland is 75% complete and on schedule to begin exports to India and Japan late-2017. The company has deals with Indian Gail and Japanese Sumitomo. The gas will be sourced by Gail and Sumitomo themselves and the two entities will pay to use the plant. The plant will have a capacity of 5.25mn mt/yr of LNG. Both companies will be able to export 2.3mn mt/yr.The Japanese trading firm will supply gas to Tokyo Gas and Kansai Energy. In 2013, Cabot Oil & Gas said it will supply 350,000mn Btu/d of LNG to Pacific Summit Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sumitomo, for a period of 20 years. The gas will come from Cabot’s Marcellus Shale position and sales will commence when the Dominion Cove Point LNG liquefaction project starts up in 2017.

Francaise de l’Energie (LFDE), which aims to boost the country’s near-zero indigenous gas production, said November 2 that it plans to start marketing power from an existing coalbed methane (CBM) field near Calais starting 1Q 2017 and to test a new CBM well in Lorraine during the same quarter. Independent LFDE’s loss widened to €4.2mn for the 12 months to June 2016, from a year-before loss of €2.6mn. Its existing CBM production at Avion (in Nord-Pas de Calais) suffered from low prices but it expects these to stabilise in the coming months at €16/MWh gas, still quite weak.CEO Julien Moulin though said an initial public offering in June allowed LFDE to list on the Paris stock exchange and raise €37.5mn, enabling it to complete its acquisitions of Gazonor and Concorde Paris.

TransCanada said Tuesday it had increased its offer and agreed to pay $915 million to acquire Columbia Pipeline Partners. TransCanada this year bought the Houston company’s parent, Columbia Pipeline Group, for more than $10 billion. Columbia Pipeline Partners is a master limited partnership, an entity that companies, particularly pipeline firms, use to attract more investors through generous payouts similar to dividends. TransCanada already has a master limited partnership called TC PipeLines, and said it would absorb Columbia Pipeline Partners.
When the deal is finalized by the end of March, TransCanada will absorb the partnership and operate with TC PipeLines as its only MLP.
