JP3 Measurement announces the launch of the industry’s first in-line, field deployable, optical vapor pressure analyzer – the Verax VPATM. For the first time, operators can measure vapor pressure in condensate and crude oil in real time with no sample conditioning.
Developed specifically to measure the volatility of crude oil, NGL and condensate, the Verax VPA provides real-time measurement of vapor pressure (RVP, TVP or VPCR) during processing or loading operations. The VPA provides operators the ability to measure the vapor pressure of crude before and during loading, thus ensuring that its volatility has been reduced to safe transportation levels. Between 2008 and 2013, the number of crude oil originated rail car loads increased from 9,500 to almost 400,000, according to AAR.
Matt Thomas, JP3 President and CEO, said, “The Verax VPA is the first technology focused on giving operators more control over the crude and condensate that is being transported on rail or over the road. We are pleased to provide this new analyzer for the oil and gas markets, not only to increase economic efficiency but also to reduce the level of risk during transportation.”
By measuring with probes directly in the pipeline at operating pressure and temperature, the Verax VPA eliminates any concern of paraffin clogging, often associated with measuring vapor pressure. The VPA will return a measurement every 30 seconds to ensure that the product being loaded or unloaded meets vapor pressure specifications from start to finish.
In addition, the unit works on loading skids and stations, needing only 24 volts DC power to operate. The process connection is a simple process bypass, consuming zero product.
Using patented Near-Infrared optical spectroscopy and advanced communications, the Verax VPA provides real time data, communicates directly to your control system, and gives the user unprecedented levels of monitoring and control over the product being handled.
Verax VPA is the first optical, online, real-time, vapor pressure analyzer for crude, condensate and NGL streams available to the Oil & Gas industry.
Verax VPA Monitors Vapor Pressure in Hydrocarbon Liquids
The Verax VPA allows you to safely measure vapor pressure in crude oil condensate, NGL and LPG using first principles, traceable to ASTM standards with high repeatability. With in-line probes, the Verax VPATM lets the user “see inside the pipe” by analyzing the stream unconditioned and in it’s original state.
Measure in the Pipeline at Operating Pressure and Temperature
Because the Verax VPATM measures with probes directly in the pipeline at operating pressure and temperature, no sample conditioning system is required. In addition, there are neither emissions nor consumables.
Solid State Spectroscopy for Rapid Response Time
Patented Near-Infrared (NIR) optical spectroscopy provides readings in a matter of seconds and requires no moving parts and no filtering, resulting in longer life and reduced maintenance costs.
Real-Time Remote Monitoring
Advanced electronics and communication capabilities provide customers complete real-time measurement and monitoring of their operations, giving them unprecedented levels of plant control.
The first real-time Vapor Pressure Analyzer
Produces RVP, TVP and VPCRx measurements on 30 second cycle;
Zero emissions or lost product;
Mounts anywhere in plant without need for analyzer shelter;
Performance correlation to ASTM standards.
In-Line Probe at Temperature & Pressure
Verax VPA utilizes near-IR laser absorption spectroscopy and proprietary chemometric model library;
In-line at full pressure with no sample collection needed;
Multi-probe option for inlet/outlet or multiple stream measurement;
Custom probe design prevents fouling for maintenance-free use;
Wireless modem provide remote operation capability.
Sample Application: Eliminate RVP Giveaway
Problem: Customer was manually switching re-boiler to meet downstream spec. Traditional vapor pressure analyzer is ineffective due to high paraffin content, cycle time, and cost.
Solution: After Verax VPA installation, operator is able to stabilize plant, confidently meet customer specifications, and increase average RVP by ~2 PSI.
Result: 2-3% increase in overall plant financial returns. Two week payback time on analyzer.
By measuring with probes directly in the pipeline at operating pressure and temperature, the Verax VPA eliminates any concern of paraffin clogging, which is often associated with measuring vapor pressure. The VPA returns a measurement every few seconds to ensure that the product being loaded or unloaded meets vapor pressure specifications from start to finish.
Verax VPA is currently in use at midstream facilities, loading/unloading terminals and on pipelines across most of the major oil & gas basins in the United States.
