Cegal has announced the release of Blueback Seismic Data Management, a software solution that provides full life cycle management of seismic data for a range of geoscience applications.
Built on a modern architecture and a web-based user interface, Blueback Seismic Data Management scans, catalogs, quality controls and prepares seismic data, aiming to solve the increasing complexity of seismic data sets.
According to the company, the solution is cost and time efficient, and helps to improve the quality of application ready seismic by managing large volumes of data with efficient workflows.
When developing Blueback Seismic Data Management, we have focused on providing functionality that enables the geoscientist and data managers to prepare and quality control data for loading into geoscience applications,”
Ketil Waagbø, software portfolio manager, Cegal, said. “The data model is open and easy to use, and can be accessed directly with third party tools to produce custom reporting and dashboards.”
The solution integrates with geographical information systems (GIS) and provides map- and table-based views. The spatial information can be accessed directly from ESRI ArcGIS for integration into GIS workflows and external maps.
Blueback seismic data management

Features
Crawl disks and scan seismic files
A disk crawler automatically scans seismic (SEGY and ZGY) and navigation files, loads meta data into the Seis- mic Data Management database and automatically de- tects duplicated files. SEGY loading parameters can be automatically or manually set. An option for automated scheduled crawling and scanning jobs will be added.
QC and view seismic assets
A web based user interface allows data managers and geoscience users to view the seismic catalog in table and map views. Use the meta data for searching, filtering and finding the seismic data. The map views allow integration of external map services, which can be used as background maps.
Make data collections
Create collections of seismic data in the table views or map views. Use the collections as input to workflows for data preparations, or to load into Geoscience applications.
Data preparation
The Blueback Seismic Data Management solution provides functions to prepare data for loading into Geoscience applications. Example functions: Scaling, amplitude and phase balancing, merge navigation data into SEGY trace headers, convert coordinates between coordinate reference systems, correct SEGY trace header values and cut seismic with a polygon.
Intergrate with third party tools and applications
The open and easy to use data model provided in the Blueback Seismic Data Management database can be accessed directly with third party tools like Spotfire*, Power BI*, Microsoft Excel to produce custom reporting and dashboards. The spatial information can be accessed directly from ESRI ArcGIS for integration into GIS workflows and external maps.
Modern
Access the system through an intuitive and secure web application built on modern web standards and technology. It runs on modern Windows operating systems including Windows 7 and newer for both desktop and full server versions. Installation and setup is easy and can be installed on several machines, ranging from lap- tops to powerful distributed servers.
