The Belle Single-Phase Motor uses written-pole technology to deliver a 100-hp single-phase motor that is compatible with readily available single-phase utility services. This eliminates the need for phase converters or complex variable frequency drive installations. It is ideal for powering equipment like pumps, compressors, and other equipment typically found in industrial, municipal, agricultural, mining and oil & gas installations.
The BELLE Motor™ utilizes patented Written-Pole® technology to deliver large-horsepower output from 230v or 460v single-phase lines. This revolutionary motor system allows operators to drive a variety of applications without the need for a Variable Frequency Drive or Phase Converter and without the prospect of costly 3-phase line installation.
Ideal for industrial applications in areas where three-phase power is not readily available or cost-effective, the technology eliminates the need for phase converters or complex variable frequency drive installations, according to a SPPS release.
Featuring an enclosed fan-cooled design in a cast iron frame, the design is suitable for indoor or outdoor installation in some of the most demanding environments and applications. Rated as a 460-volt, 1,800-rpm electric motor, SPPS says the innovative design delivers 95.5 percent efficiency at rated load with a near-unity power factor. The NEMA 449T frame motor weighs about 2,700 pounds and draws just 170 amps at full load.
The motor windings are fabricated using high-grade copper and Class H insulation materials similar to materials used in three-phase electric motors.
Belle Motors, available in 30- to 100-horsepower ratings, are ideal for industrial, agricultural, mining, municipal and oil and gas applications such as pumps, compressors, injection wells, as well as blowers, fans, dryers, water and wastewater processing.

BELLE™ Motors are up to 60% more efficient than diesel engines. With a near unity power factor, operating efficiencies of 95.5%, and a running speed of true 1800 rpms, our motors outperform diesel engines for most applications. Utilizing our patented Written-Pole® technology, we are able to produce starting currents of less than 2x the running current (typical induction motors require 6x the running current for starting) allowing for a utility-friendly startup on the power line as well as making our motors more cost efficient due to our low startup requirements.
Low Starting Current
BELLE™ Written-Pole® single-phase motors exhibit starting current requirements comparable to conventional single-phase motors one-fourth their size. This feature reduces annoying voltage sags when starting without requiring users to install complex reduced voltage starters.
Their low starting current dramatically enhances the capability of a single-phase service to support much larger motors than previously thought possible, eliminating the need for costly three-phase service extensions.
Three-Phase Performance using Single-Phase Power
While their low starting current and high operating efficiency eliminate the need for three-phase power in many applications, BELLE™ Written-Pole ® single-phase motors also compare favorably to premium efficiency three-phase motors in many areas.
