The BM-T40 motion compensated crane enables you to lift safely from a moving vessel to an offshore installation. This unique piece of equipment eliminates motions at the base of the crane allowing work to continue safely in higher sea-states, eliminating the need for platform cranes and reducing costs significantly.
ABOUT BM-T40
The BM-T40 is designed for maintenance support vessels and platform supply vessels. These types of vessel are used to transfer small loads or personnel to (unmanned) offshore oil and gas platforms or wind turbines.
The BM-T40 measures vessel motions and actively compensates roll, pitch and heave motions by means of three hydraulic cylinders. The surge, sway and yaw of the vessel can already be constrained by the dynamic positioning system.
The BM-T40 can be integrated into a new vessel or retrofitted to an existing vessel. The system has a small footprint allowing any vessel to easily accommodate the motion compensated crane.
The BM-T40 features a small footprint and is designed to compensate for sea induced motions of a knuckle boom crane with a lifting capacity of 15mT at a 10 meter radius or 5mT at a 20 meter radius.
Typical loads include hoses, tools, spare parts, maintenance equipment, replacement parts of small wind turbines and solar panels weighing 1.5mT to 5mT. The BM-T40 is also perfectly suited for grouting operations. These loads will have to be placed at a typical radius of 20m, at a typical height of 15m to 30m above sea-level.
Besides the suitability of safely lifting loads, the T40 is manriding certified for safe personnel transfer.

WORKABILITY
The application of the BM-T40 increases the workability of a vessel significantly, as depicted by the images on this page. These images show the operational envelope for a typical offshore support vessel equipped with the BM-T40. For various wave headings the operational envelope increases up to significant wave height of 3 meters.
The BM-T40 ensures safe lifting operations for all headings in higher sea states. By compensating at the basis of the crane, the crane and load are compensated, ensuring a steady operator cabin/boom, as well as a steady load.
TECHNOLOGY
The Barge Master T40 motion compensation system is built in a pedestal type configuration. The motion compensation system consists of three vertically mounted hydraulic cylinders which compensate the heave, roll and pitch motions of the vessel. The constraining system consists of a linear guide mechanism and a mechanical joint between the base and the pedestal.
The roll and pitch motions of the vessel are compensated by two vertically mounted hydraulic cylinders which compensate the motions around a hinge between the pedestal and the base. The cylinders are attached to the outer pedestal and keep the outer pedestal in a vertical position; the outer pedestal is roll and pitch compensated.
The heave motion is compensated by a third hydraulic cylinder inside the pedestal. This cylinder compensates the heave motion by extending the inner pedestal through the outer pedestal. The inner pedestal is guided through the outer pedestal by means of a linear guiding mechanism consisting of a set of rollers. The linear guide keeps the inner pedestal upright, while allowing freedom in the vertical direction. The crane is mounted to the inner pedestal, making it roll, pitch and heave compensated.
The controller measures the motions of the vessel using motion reference units. The cylinders are controlled by means of velocity feed-forward and position feedback. Redundancy is applied to the critical components assuring safe motion compensated offshore lifting.
SALES & RENTAL
The BM-T40 can be rented or purchased. The system can be integrated into a new vessel or retrofitted to an existing vessel. The BM-T40 has a small footprint allowing any vessel to easily accommodate the motion compensated crane.
ABOUT BARGE MASTER
Relatively small vessel motions can have a large impact on the safety and workability of offshore operations. Barge Master provides the solution to deal with these sea induced vessel motions during offshore operations. Barge Master specializes in developing motion compensation systems meant to improve the safety and workability of offshore operations.
By eliminating vessel motions Barge Master ensures safe and cost effective lifting operations in offshore conditions. By increasing the workability, costs will be reduced significantly.
