In a statement, Cairn said Tuesday it expected to spend $170 million on exploration and appraisal this year, up from $90 million last year, and would participate in drilling up to seven wells offshore Mexico, the UK and Norway. It will be the operator of three UK and two Mexican exploration wells planned for the second half of the year, and will participate in additional wells operated by other companies. It also has seismic acquisition underway or planned in Surname and Cote d’Ivoire. Cairn gained a full year of production in 2018 after previously relying on exploration, deriving 17,500 b/d of oil equivalent from its stakes in the UK Catcher and Kraken fields, operated by Premier Oil and EnQuest respectively. It put its average production costs for 2018 at $20/boe.
