The two entered into talks in late 2018 about a possible takeover, but with the loss of the Fortuna upstream license that would have provided feedgas for Ophir’s planned floating LNG export project, Medco has reduced its potential offer price twice. A deal would create one of the biggest private upstream producers in Southeast Asia with production of an estimated 110,000 b/d of oil equivalent. “The board of Ophir has met to consider the possible offer announced by Medco,” the UK company said. “The board has unanimously rejected the proposal as it undervalues Ophir,” it said.
