It will be the company’s second wellboat, developed by Norway’s NSK Ship Design capable of carrying live salmon and trout for Nordlaks from 2021 onwards, the company said in a statement. The first vessel is already under construction, with the steel cutting completed in October 2018, and the delivery expected in February 2020. In cooperation with NSK Ship Design, the Norwegian NOx Fund and governmental funding agency Enova, Nordlaks have chosen to invest in liquefied natural gas (LNG) as an energy source for the live fish carriers, also accompanied with a large battery pack and a shore electrical power connection, as it looks to cut out the use of diesel for fish transport. The governmental funding agency Enova supports the project with more than 3.1 million kroner ($357.9 million). The newly ordered vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2021.
