Halliburton DashTM EH Control System Brings Speed, Strength, and Simplicity.
This key technology is designed to work in conjunction with Halliburton’s VetoTM premier 3-inch 15k Subsea Safety System. The Dash EH system should be added to the Veto system when a rapid well shut-in and unlatching of the landing string may be required. This is of paramount importance when conducting well-testing activities from dynamically positioned drilling vessels in water depths up to 10,000 feet (3038 m).
The Dash EH system utilizes smart, redundant electronic controls to perform the emergency well shut-in and landing string disconnect in less than 15 seconds. The Dash EH module is a passive system during normal operations with full direct hydraulic control and full integration with Halliburton’s RezConnectTM well testing system.
Safety and simplicity are paramount in deepwater well testing. The Dash EH system delivers both.
The Way Dash EH Works
Dash EH functioned by dual electrical lines via the control umbilical, powering dual coil solenoid valves.
This full redundancy provides multiple signals to the downhole controls, ensuring that if an emergency arises the solenoid valves respond with quick response enabling the Dash EH to safety shut in the well and un-latch the Subsea Safety system.
As added reassurance, unlike conventional control modules that use complicated multiplex digital electronics, Dash EH was specifically designed such that an electrical failure does not compromise safety of the system. Simply default to reliable direct hydraulic control and proceed with your operation.
Also utilizing a single accumulator each ball is individually operated via the surface control panel and can be put into a pre-programed ESD sequence or EQD sequence.

Dash EH Surface Control System
Electrical Surface Control System
The center of the DashTM EH electrical surface control system is a DNV rated container which houses and deploys all the necessary electrical equipment. This includes the Main Control Panel, UPS system, HMI’s, remote ESD/EQD stations, surface pressure sensors and cables. All equipment has been designed to meet Zone 1 hazardous locations.
The main control panel is a purged and pressurised enclosure which houses a Fail-Safe PLC that is responsible for handling all safety functions along with all surface and subsea data acquisition. This system is fully backed up and designed to run without rig air and power for a minimum of two hours using nitrogen backup and UPS System.
The ESD and EQD functions have been designed to be as simple and reliable. Control Logic is programmed at a basic level and is separated from the digital telemetry system.
ESD and EQD functions may be initiated by any of four wired remote station pendants. These remote stations are intrinsically safe, and have a 300 meter range. These remote stations are monitored by the PLC for wire breaks and failure will be monitored at the Main control panel and HMI.
The system is equipped with two explosion proof touchscreen computers which are responsible for logging and displaying all system data. These HMI’s can be located up to 90 meters from the main control unit.
The Main Control Panel, Remote Stations and HMI all include individual diagnostic indicators. In addition, the system
is equipped with a dedicated audio-visual alarm set that is reserved for major hazards and alerts.
Along with its capability to safely shut-in and un-latch the Veto system, Dash EH provides an extensive data acquisition system.
The system is designed around Halliburton’s Surface Well Test Data Acquisition System (SWTDAS) which uses Halliburton’s InSite and Kernal software packages. The subsea module is equipped with pressure, temperature, and flow meters on all control lines along with bore and annuals pressure and temperature monitoring. Additionally the surface container houses pressure sensors for all control lines.
Halliburton EH Reeler
The Halliburton EH Reeler is a pneumatic powered reeler designed to integrate hydraulic and electric lines seamlessly with the rest of the Dash EH Surface Control System.
The EH Reeler is built on a rugged frame that includes a lifting set, both with documentation of load testing and performance testing per DNV 2.7-3.
All of the EH Reeler’s electrical connectors, wires, and junctions are ATEX Zone 1 rated. This includes the 8 channel electrical slip ring.
Installed on the EH Reeler is a 10,000 ft. EH Umbilical, containing 7-off 1⁄4″ and 1-off 3⁄8″ ID hose ID hoses, all with a working pressure rating of 15,000psi. The 3⁄8″ ID hose
is specially designed to accommodate high flow chemical injection of Methanol to assist in subsea hydrate prevention. Also contained in the umbilical bundle are 2-off 7-Conductor electrical cables with ETFE insulation and jackets, and water blocking compound used between conductors.
