Independent global completions service company Tendeka, has launched the MajiFrac Solution, a new portfolio of applications which aims to reduce water use and pumping time during completion operations in unconventional shale plays in the U.S.
Unique to Tendeka, the MajiFrac Solution is the combination of a wide range of high-performance technologies and products, which can be used either individually or collectively. It includes a specially blended thermally stable modified acid system, the company’s field proven MajiFrac Composite Plug, which incorporates a pump down feature to minimize water by-pass, and MajiFrac, a range of high viscosity friction reducers (HVFR).
As is often the case when it comes to technology, it’s not the specific, off-the-shelf components that solves the problems but how to combine solutions together that delivers tangible results,” said Elizabeth Cambre, Tendeka’s Business Development Manager – Production Enhancement. “In one example, the MajiFrac Solution delivered savings of up to 50,000 bbl of water and reduced pump operating times by 200 hrs. The sequence in which the MajiFrac technology is deployed enables optimized fluid distribution across the interval. This can lead to more contact area with the formation resulting in increased production.”
The modified acid system, which can be prepared in produced water, boasts a combination of spotting a spearhead acid with plug and perforating guns. It is harmless to the skin and achieves ultra-long-term corrosion protection compared to conventional acids, thereby reducing risk to personnel, the environment and eliminating the hazards of casing integrity. While maintaining the positive aspects of solubility and reactivity rates, it minimizes unsafe exposure levels and effluent rates, as well as costly transport and storage. It has already been tested and approved by several major operators.
Tendeka’s MajiFrac Composite Plug is proven to be unaffected by acid. Its superior design deploys the plug to its setting depth with considerably less water than other leading industry plugs. The fast mill out time also reduces operational schedules with minimal remaining debris. Furthermore, high speed lines are achievable at low pump down rates.
The MajiFrac Solution incorporates Tendeka’s MajiFrac suite of HVFRs. Designed and manufactured in-house by the company’s Production Enhancement team, MajiFrac HVFRs delivers improved drag reduction, without the need for a booster, at ultra-low dosages. Because of its elasticity, it can transport high loadings of sand at low dosages. It can also be used across a wide range of water qualities without losing its efficacy.
Suzanne Stewart, Tendeka’s VP North & South America, said: “To maximize return on investment and reduce the time and cost required to complete wells in unconventional shale plays, it is crucial to bring a credible and economic package of hydraulic fracturing solutions closer to the operator. Our global Production Enhancement service allows us to tailor our products to meet the specific water quality and demands of the client. We will also work closely with our customers to ensure they see successful results via full training and field support across the project.”
Production Enhancement
Tendeka’s global Production Enhancement Technology and Fluid Field Service Support product line serves to not only help E&P companies extract every drop of energy from their reservoirs with innovative fracturing, acidizing and EOR solutions but to do so with proven solutions that address challenges.
For E&P companies operating in the US unconventional shale market, Tendeka offers innovative solutions like The MajiFrac Solution. The MajiFrac Solution tackles the intensive fracturing water and pumping time requirements, the challenges associated with using produced water in fracturing treatments and increases production.
The overall result is less pump time, lower cost, reduced water consumption and enhanced production.
The Modified Acid™ system is available to the market and already in-use by various North American operators. It shows far superior performance properties compared to hydrochloric acid (HCl) or urea-based acids, without the extremely hazardous/negative exposure, transport, effluent, and corrosive properties associated with HCl.
This Modified Acid system is a replacement for HCl blends that can be prepared in produced water, utilized and exposed to perforating tools and wireline at high temperatures over long periods with minimal effect. This system allows operators to pump acid with the perforating guns and composite plug, reducing time per stage and saving up to a wellbore volume of water per stage. Superior formation breakdown is experienced with this acid and since the acid is in place when the perforations are created, it is more likely that all perforations are cleaned of debris helping to more uniformly place the fracturing treatment.
Tendeka’s FracRight Composite Plug has been tested and proven to be unaffected by the modified acid, and its superior design deploys the plug to its setting depth with less water than other leading industry plugs. The design of the FracRight Composite Plug makes it possible to be run in excess of 400ft/min in the vertical and above 300ft/min in the lateral section of the well without it setting prematurely. Furthermore, the fast mill-out time of the FracRight Composite Plug also contributes towards reducing operating time.
Tendeka’s MajiFrac family of high viscosity friction reducers, are designed and manufactured in house by Tendeka’s Production Enhancement team. MajiFrac-FRA400ES delivers more drag reduction, without the need for a booster, at ultra-low dosages and can put away high loadings of sand at low dosages because of its elasticity. This saves the operator millions in dollars in chemicals per year. Less water is required when higher loadings of sand are being pumped.
MajiFrac-FRA400ES can also be used across a wide range of water qualities without losing its efficacy.
Fluid Field Service Support
Optimization of fracturing fluids should not stop at the laboratory or in the office, especially when prepared with higher percentages of produced water. The content of the produced water can change in short periods of time. Therefore, it is critical to optimize the fluid system in the field with the produced water right before the treatment. Fluid optimization in the field helps Tendeka’s customers solve fluid problems before they happen by detecting fluid incompatibilities. To address this challenge, Tendeka also provides chemical management of its technology along with logistical support.
