Iran May Cut Oil Output Plans by 1 Mln B/D Over US Sanctions -Official Returning U.S. sanctions could reduce Iran’s future production prospects by 1 million barrels a day if they force European oil majors to leave, a top Iranian oil official said this week. U.S. President Donald Trump announced late Tuesday he would leave a nuclear pact signed with Iran in 2015 that brought an end to sanctions in exchange for tight controls on Tehran’s atomic program. But the European Union says it won’t pull out of the agreement and it’s still unclear how American restrictions will impact European oil companies investing in Iran. “In the absence of [west European oil companies], with Chinese and Russian companies, we plan to increase by 1 million barrels a day” instead of 2 million barrels a day, Gholamreza Manouchehri, a deputy head of the state-run National Iranian Oil Co., said in an interview in Tehran on Monday, prior to Mr. Trump’s announcement. As a result, production capacity would rise to 5 million barrels a day instead of 6 million barrels a day during the next decade, which compares with 4 million barrels a day today, said Mr. Manouchehri, who is in charge of development and engineering. France’s Total SA (FP.FR) and Austria’s OMV AG (OMV.VI) intend to continue working in the country for the time being, according to people at these companies. Total, which has signed a $1 billion deal to invest in an Iran gas field, declined to comment. OMV, which has been negotiating contracts for new projects, said “the picture is very unclear at the moment so it’s too early to jump to conclusions.”
