Ways the Trump Decision on Iran Could Impact Oil President Trump widely expected to announce today that the US is withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal. But there are a number of ways the decision could play out. “We reiterate that actual (not perceived) oil market impacts seem likely to depend on the timing, scope and implementation details of reinstated sanctions,” analysts at ClearView Energy Partners write. Previous sanctions have reduced Iran’s exports by some 1.1M barrels a day. But this time the action could be smaller and slower to materialize. For one thing, it’s not clear that everyone is on board. If Europe doesn’t support US efforts, some global buyers might keep accepting Iranian oil. “As a result, we still think flows could change more than volumes as barrels migrate from low-risk-tolerance European markets to higher-risk-tolerance Asian destinations,” the analysts say.
