Crude inventories fell by 5.7 million barrels in the week to October 13, compared with analysts’ expectations for an decrease of 4.2 million barrels.
Refinery crude runs fell by 819,000 barrels per day, EIA data showed. Refinery utilization rates fell by 4.7 percentage points.
Gasoline stocks rose by 908,000 barrels, compared with analysts’ expectations in a Reuters poll for a 256,000 barrels gain.
Distillate stockpiles, which include diesel and heating oil, rose by 528,000 barrels, versus expectations for a 1.5 million barrels drop, the EIA data showed.
U.S. crude imports fell last week by 662,000 barrels per day.
