Total “will maintain Maersk Oil’s strong position in the North Sea with strong Copenhagen and Esbjerg bases and with Denmark being the operating hub for Total S.A.’s combined operations in Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands,” Maersk said in its statement.
The deal is still subject to regulatory approval in Denmark and consultation with Total employees, and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year.
Last September, AP Moller-Maersk announced it planned to separate four units — Maersk Oil, Maersk Drilling, Maersk Supply Service and Maersk Tankers — from the parent group within the next two years.
