Sanctions Against Venezuela Could Lift Oil Prices Even limited sanctions against Venezuela could disrupt the country’s oil output and result in higher crude prices, Barclays analysts say. A sharp disruption could raise oil prices at least $5 to $7 a barrel if it were to last more than a few months. “It may be just the opportunity OPEC needs to exit its current strategy,” Barclays says. Still, close ties between the US and Venezuelan oil industries mean there’s reason to think there won’t be any drastic moves. ”
