U.S. crude for September delivery rose by $1.55 to $47.89 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange — its highest settlement since June 6. The 3.34% increase was the largest daily percentage gain since November 30, the day that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries announced a deal to curtail production. Brent, the global benchmark, rose $1.60, or 3.29%, to $50.20 a barrel — its highest settlement since June 1.
