Nigeria Says Gradually Increasing Oil Output to Respect OPEC Concerns Nigeria “is managing its recovery and production increase gently and gradually respecting OPEC concerns,” the country’s oil minister Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu tells the Wall Street Journal. “Our crude oil production though recovering is still below the 1.8 million barrels a day benchmark set for us by OPEC,” he adds. Nigerian production averaged 1.6 million barrels a day in June, up 200,000 barrels a day from April, according to JBC Energy. The West African country, along with Libya, has been exempted from OPEC production cuts and their production rise has led to discussions to cap their output among other producers.
