Japan banks extend $566 mil for Inpex to take 5% stake in Abu Dhabi’s Adco concession A Japanese consortium has signed an agreement to lend up to $566 million to Inpex to acquire a 5% stake in the giant onshore Adco oil concessions, state-owned Japan Bank for International Cooperation said Tuesday.
JBIC accounts for $339 million of the $566 million loan, co-financed with Mizuho Bank, the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation.
JBIC said the loan was intended to provide the necessary funds for Inpex to acquire the 5% stake in Adco under a 40-year concession awarded by Abu Dhabi’s Supreme Petroleum Council in April 2015. Adco currently produces about 1.6 million b/d of Murban crude.
JBIC said Abu Dhabi was vital to Japan’s resource strategy as the emirate allows the entry of foreign companies on the basis of concession agreements.
