China Filling SPR to Prop Up Global Oil Demand
China’s ongoing effort to fill up the nation’s strategic petroleum reserve will help support global oil demand, says Guotai Junan’s Grace Liu. Data show that in the past 4 months, China’s apparent crude consumption rose 5.4% from a year earlier while apparent consumption of refined oil was flat–a reflection of China moving away from a heavy industry-based economy. “This means a huge portion of the imported crude went to SPR,” she concludes.
