Bleak Outlook for Big LNG Projects in Australia With a persistently oversupplied liquefied natural gas market, the outlook for any more large-scale projects in Australia remains bleak, BMI Research says. Competition is stiff and development costs high, and major buyers such as Japan and Korea are increasingly averse to signing long-term supply deals that underpinned past LNG projects, it says. The coming surge in Australian liquefied natural gas exports will be driven from projects previously approved and smaller-scale expansions of existing operations, it says, forecasting a 43% jump in exports over the next 5 years from projects such as Chevron’s (CVX) Wheatstone, Inpex’s (1605.TO) Ichthys and Shell’s (RDSA) Prelude LNG projects.
