Global Oil Companies Opting to Upgrade Refineries Over Building New Ones
As global oil prices are likely to stay below $60 a barrel for the next two years and possibly beyond, many multinational oil companies who are investing in Asia have become less interested in building new refineries in the region but are looking at upgrading existing ones to be more competitive, says Peter Lee, a BMI Research analyst. “These major oil companies are interested in projects that are lower in risk, lower in cost, and have a short cycle,” he says.
