Growing Indonesia-Iran Oil Ties to Hurt Some
Indonesia’s recent purchase of a million barrels of Iran’s light crude underpins the country’s growing need for foreign oil as domestic production depletes, says BMI Research. But it adds the foray could erode the market share of existing suppliers such as Saudi Aramco and prospective suppliers like Russia. “Iran crudes would also likely displace barrels from Iraq as Iraqi crudes cannot be processed at domestic refineries and so must be processed into refined fuels in Singapore before being shipped to Indonesia at added time and cost.”
