American consumers’ appetite for gasoline will decline this year as consumers try to save their money and buy more fuel-efficient vehicles, Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Research says. “We see US gasoline demand resuming its negative trend in 2017 and beyond, as miles driven growth slows and fuel efficiency in new cars sold starts rising again on higher prices,” the bank says. “US gasoline demand will contract on average by 70 thousand b/d each year over the medium term,” BAML says.
