From 23 to 28 February 2019, a delegation of the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) from Bahrain, headed by Chairman of the Board of Directors A. Al-Sharyan, is in Turkmenistan on a working visit. During the visit, meetings were held with representatives of Turkmengaz , Turkmenneft state- owned companies, as well as with managers responsible for the oil and gas and chemical complexes. During the meetings, the parties noted the importance of a large number of new infrastructure facilities in the oil and gas sector of Turkmenistan, such as: a new automated rail overpass at Kenar terminal for storage and shipment of oil products of the Turkmenbashi oil refinery complex (TKNPZ); polymer plant in the village Kiyanly is the largest gas-chemical complex (MCC) in the region for the production of polyethylene and polypropylene, the innovation and environmental friendliness of which was marked by international certificates. Also during the productive negotiations, some joint oil and gas and gas chemical projects in Turkmenistan were discussed, as well as the development of further areas of cooperation. GPIC is the only petrochemical company headquartered in Bahrain and sells its products both locally and exports to other countries of the Persian Gulf and beyond, including the United States, China, India and Pakistan. The GPIC is owned by three major government agencies, namely the National Oil and Gas Administration (NOGA) Bahrain, Saudi Core Industries Corporation (SABIC) and Petrochemical Industries Co. (PIC) Kuwait. The company employs 481 people, of whom 92% are Bahraini.​
