As intra-day and day ahead spot power prices rocketed amid worsening weather conditions across the country, the demand led price spike proved irresistible for UK gas-to-power plant operators, who ramped up intra-day by an extra 12% from their initial day ahead nominations to National Grid. The Platts market-on-close price for Thursday’s UK power baseload came to GBP73/MWh, a 10-month high, while the peak contract was priced at GBP85.50/MWh, both rising substantially on day by GBP6.60/MWh and GBP9/MWh respectively.
