DJ Oil Prices Dragged Lower by Oversupply Worries Oil prices continued a precipitous slide to a fresh one-year low on Tuesday, weighed down by concerns over global growth and uncertainty over the impact of production cuts from major exporters. Light, sweet crude for January delivery slipped $3.64, or 7.3%, to $46.24 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, its third one-day drop of at least 7% since the start of November. Brent, the global benchmark, closed down 5.6% at $56.26 a barrel. Fresh concerns about the strength of the global economy raised doubts over the outlook on fuel demand, adding to weakness in the oil market. Prices have dropped sharply as analysts have lowered forecasts for demand growth and supply has built up. Both benchmarks have fallen more than 35% from roughly four-year highs reached at the start of October. U.S. crude closed at its lowest level since August 2017 Tuesday, while Brent is also at its lowest level in more than a year.
