Oil Prices Boosted After OPEC’s Deal to Cut Output Iraqi Oil Minister Thamer Ghadhban said on Saturday that major oil producers, including the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), have agreed on cutting oil production by 1.2 million barrels a day (bpd).
“Apart from Russia, Iraq played a key role in reaching the agreement with the assistance of other members of the OPEC such as Saudi Arabia and Emirates,” Oil Minister Thamer Ghadhban said in a statement, noting that the decision would be in force from the beginning of the new year for six months.
He pointed out that Iraq wanted the new agreement to last for a year, but it was rejected by the other members.
The Iraqi official explained that the OPEC would cut a total of 800,000 barrels per day, while this number would be 400,000 bpd for the other countries.
However, according to Ghadhban, the new policy has caused an instant boost in oil prices.
