Inpex-operated Ichthys project in Australia set for first LPG shipment Japan’s Inpex-operated Ichthys project is expected to make its first LPG shipment in coming days, industry sources said Thursday, which would add to growing LPG supply in Asia following the rush of arrivals from the US since 2014 driven by the shale boom. A Very Large Gas Carrier time chartered by France’s Total is in the midst of loading the first LPG cargo from the Ichthys LNG project off northwestern Australia, according to sources familiar with the matter and cFlow, S&P Global Platts trade flow software. The 48,022-dwt Malta-flagged Hellas Gladiator entered nearby Darwin port on October 26, after which it has been anchored at Ichthys Terminal Jetty 2, according to sources and Platts cFlow. “The project is scheduled to proceed with the shipment of LPG and onshore condensate as appropriate when the required shipment volumes have been reached,” an Inpex spokesman told Platts. “The specific timing of [LPG} shipment will be determined taking into account the rate of operational progress, and therefore cannot be disclosed in detail at this time,” he added. Total holds a 30% stake in the Ichthys LNG project, which is led by Japan’s upstream company Inpex, with a 62.245% operating stake. Japanese LNG customers Tokyo Gas owns 1.575%, Osaka Gas 1.2%, Kansai Electric Power 1.2%, Jera 0.735% and Toho Gas 0.42%; while Taiwan’s state-run CPC holds a 2.625% interest. At peak production, Inpex will be able to supply two LPG cargoes per month on VLGCs from the Ichthys project if the company is marketing 70% of the volumes. Total will be able to offer one or less VLGC cargo per month based on its 30% equity in the project. Trade sources said Total was heard to be one of four winners in Indonesian Pertamina’s first round annual term tender for 2019 supply, which comprises four to six 44,000 mt mixed propane/butane cargoes per month on CFR basis, and up to two cargoes each month on a FOB basis. The others were heard to be Japanese trading firm Gyxis, Trafigura and Vitol.
