UK’s Zennor wins approval to develop Finlaggan natural gas field in UK North Sea UK-based Zennor Petroleum has won approval from the UK authorities to proceed with the development of the Finlaggan natural gas and condensate field in the UK North Sea, the company said Monday. Finlaggan is expected to begin production in the fourth quarter of 2020 and is set for peak output of 2.3 million cu m/d of gas and some 4,500 b/d of condensate. The approval represents another boost for the UK gas sector following a number of final investment decisions for new gas fields so far this year as new projects are approved designed to offset maturing decline elsewhere. Finlaggan — which was discovered in 1995 — is a “key foundation stone” of Zennor’s portfolio, company managing director Martin Rowe said. The project will comprise two subsea production wells tied back 20 km to the ConocoPhillips-operated Britannia platform. Zennor — founded in 2006 — also holds a 9% stake in Britannia. The UK Oil and Gas Authority said the Finlaggan project was important for the further development of gas in the UK North Sea. “The gas field will […] utilize existing infrastructure, maximizing economic recovery from the region,” Scott Robertson, Area Manager, Central North Sea, at the OGA said. UK commercial gas production amounted to 38.1 Bcm last year, according to S&P Global Platts Analytics data, up from 36.8 Bcm the previous year. But production is set to dip slightly in 2018 after periods of heavier-than-usual maintenance this year. Zennor said Monday it had also signed a GBP170 million ($222 million) loan to fund the Finlaggan development into production. “We are fully financed to take Finlaggan through to first production in 2020,” Rowe said. Zennor — whose production is currently around 5,000 b/d of oil equivalent — is focused on building out from its existing ETAP and Britannia production hubs with “low-risk appraisal drilling and development opportunities identified via our differentiated subsurface work flow.”
