Saudi Arabia Pledges to Support ‘Stability of Oil Markets’ After New Iran San Saudi Arabia pledged to help stabilize global oil markets in the wake of the Trump administration’s decision Tuesday to reinstate economic sanctions on Iran, a move that could eventually deprive world markets from a significant chunk of supply. President Donald Trump said Tuesday he was pulling out of a multilateral deal that removed previous sanctions on Tehran in exchange for Iran abandoning its nuclear ambitions. Washington indicated new U.S. sanctions would limit Iranian exports of crude, though officials didn’t provide specifics. The administration said it would give companies and banks several months to wind down commitments, though it wasn’t clear how that might affect oil exports. Iran has recently been exporting some 2.7 million barrels a day of crude, or close to 3% of global supplies. In the wake of Washington’s decision to reinstate sanctions, including on Iranian oil exports, Saudi Arabia issued a statement saying it remained “committed to supporting the stability of oil markets.” It said that along with other big producers, the country would help “mitigate the impact of any potential supply shortages” caused by the new sanctions.
