The first LNG cargo from the project, in which Woodside Petroleum has a stake, is to be shipped in the coming weeks, the Australian Financial Review reported on Monday.
The start-up involves the first LNG production line, or “train”, at Wheatstone, with the second expected to commence output in 6-8 months, said Woodside chief executive Peter Coleman.
Mr Coleman said the safe start-up of Wheatstone “was one of our priorities for 2017, supporting our near-term growth strategy”.
Once fully up and running, it expected to contribute more than 13 million barrels of oil equivalent to Woodside’s production.
