Industry Warns Against Australia LNG-Export Curbs Australia’s energy industry is warning that government restrictions on natural-gas exports would only redistribute supplies rather than generate new production–and in the process possibly threaten the A$50 billion ($40 billion) in new investment needed to sustain current supply levels. Resources Minister Matt Canavan formally notified LNG producers that the process has begun to determine if Australia faces a gas shortfall next year and needs to flex new powers to curb exports. But the Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association says Canberra should work with the industry on reforms which reduce development costs, arguing the only solution to challenges facing the country’s east-coast gas market is new supply.
