The French oil giant says net profit rose to $2.8 billion in the first three months of 2017, up 77% compared to a year earlier. Earnings were buoyed by higher oil prices, rising production and falling costs. Adjusted net income of $2.6 billion exceeded analysts expectations by $200 million.
