BP and Diamond Offshore are working hard to find alternative drilling programmes for the new build semi-submersible Ocean GreatWhite following BP’s cancellation of its Great Australian Bight campaign. The massive semisub is currently on its way from Singapore to East Malaysia where the contract initial acceptance testing is planned, said Diamond in its latest results conference call. BP and joint venture partner Statoil were due to start drilling in the Bight later this year using the GreatWhite, a Moss CS60E design that BP had contracted for three years at US$585,000 per day. Despite the Bight cancellation, BP has retained its contract with the rig, which was built by Hyundai Heavy Industries.
